Waste Management
INFOGRAPHIC
Waste Management is a national company managing our waste – landfill, recycling, and compost. The report over the years tried to tackle conveying some key systems like single stream recycling, and how a landfill works. They were also trying to explain their efforts to move our waste stream to a circular economy, finding innovations in various avenues of the waste business. The report used a suite of iconography within their brand assets, along with real photography, to portray these stories and explain complex systems.
Project done as a designer & project lead at Celery Design Collaborative, with content & writing partner BuzzWord
The Sustainability Report for 2014 was designed to be viewed on screen as a digital PDF. This was the first year Waste Management moved their content into a digital space outside of exerts on their website. The PDF is fully interactive, with a navigation system to help the reader jump to specific questions.
Bringing the graphics to life
I storyboarded, wrote the initial script, art directed the illustration, and reviewed the voice artist for two videos for Waste Management. Using iconography from their brand suite, they help explain how a single stream recycling facility works and how a landfill works. Both are posted on Youtube.
The Inaugural Report
The first two sustainability reports we collaborated on were broken into 3 books. Each was a different size with a different focus–the first book was the key strategy and CEO message, the second included all the reporting detail, and the third managed all the engaging storytelling.
